He stands out among all other presidents - Goodluck Eulogize Yar'Adua

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday, wrote a mind blowing tribute to his boss and former President Umar Musa Yar’Adua to mark the tenth anniversary since his demise.
.
Jonathan, who was vice president to Yar’Adua from May 2007 to May 2010, said the late President left enduring legacies for Nigeria’s democracy.

Yar’Adua served as governor of Katsina State for two-term, died in office as President, three years after he was elected in 2007

Upon his demise, Jonathan, who was then his deputy, was sworn in as President in accordance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Jonathan later won the 2011 Presidential election and returned to office.

Eulogising his former boss in a statement on Facebook on Monday, Jonathan said Yar’Adua stood out among Nigerian presidents.

“It has been a decade since His Excellency President Umar Musa Yar’Adua was snatched by the cold hands of death.

“He was a President like no other who lived and died for the sake of his country. He stood on the side of the people, toiling day and night to make their lives better.
.
“President Yar’Adua built strong bridges of hope, love, and understanding for which he became a force for national unity and positive change across our blessed land.

“In many ways, he stood out. He had an accommodating spirit and enormous goodwill that secreted a web around our national fault lines to strengthen the bond; thus leaving for his successors the task of reinforcing the band. .

 “President Yar’Adua no doubt left enduring legacies in his wholehearted devotion to the ideals of democracy, respect for peoples’ rights, freedoms and reason for living as well as commitment to the rule of law and laws of equity and justice.

“I will continue to remember President Yar’Adua as a colleague and boss who became my brother and friend.”

Residents of Ogidi ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara have called on the state government to rescue them from perennial darkness occasioned by a faulty transformer servicing three communities in the area. Kaduna records two more deaths from coronavirus

The Kaduna State Government says it has recorded two more COVID-19 related deaths. Governor Nasir El-Rufai  stated this in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, adding that the two latest fatalities included a senior citizen from Makarfi and a lady from Zaria. In the tweet, released at 11.04 p.m. on Saturday, the governor revealed that two more persons had tested positive in the state, bringing the active COVID-19 cases to 87. He said the two new cases were a male from Igabi and a female from Chikun Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. The state recorded its first reported COVID-19 related deaths on May 2, when a patient, a retired civil servant, who reportedly concealed his travel history to Kano, died before the result of his test was out. The state government had raised an alarm that the majority of COVID-19 cases in the state had travel history and that illegal inter-state travel was widening the spread of COVID-19 in the state. Zamfara police partner ex-bandits, rescue 12 kidnap victims – Official

The police command in Zamfara has rescued 12 kidnap victims through the collaboration of repentant bandits in the state. This was contained in a statement signed by Shehu Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state and made available to newsmen in Gusau on Thursday. Mr Mohammed said that the victims who were kidnapped from Farar Kasa and Sabon Birni villages, were rescued two weeks after with the assistance of the repentant bandits. According to him, the repentant bandits assisted the police in trailing the abductors to their hideouts. He said that the Commissioner of Police, Usman Nagogo, while handing over the victims to the Zamfara State Commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Abubakar Dauran, commended the repentant bandits for keeping to their promise in supporting  Governor Bello Matawalle ’s peace and reconciliation initiative.
